ColdFusion has been around for decades, which naturally raises a question for businesses still running ColdFusion applications in 2026: is the platform still relevant, or is it time to move on?
The answer depends less on ColdFusion’s age and more on the application itself.
For organizations with established ColdFusion systems, the more useful question is usually not whether ColdFusion is “old.” It is whether the current application remains supported, maintainable, secure, compatible with the surrounding technology environment, and capable of meeting the organization’s operational needs.

ColdFusion Is Still an Active Platform

When Migration May Be the Better Option
There are also situations where continued investment in a legacy ColdFusion application becomes increasingly difficult to justify.
Migration may deserve serious consideration when:
The application depends heavily on unsupported components
Technical debt makes routine changes unusually expensive or risky
Critical integrations are becoming difficult to maintain
The system no longer fits current business processes
Suitable development or maintenance resources are difficult to secure

In these cases, continuing to patch the existing application indefinitely can create its own form of risk.
